Student Poster Award at Probiotics-2012

Student Poster Award at Probiotics-2012

Chiharu Ishii (gruduate student, master's program) won the 1st prize of Student Poster Award Competition at Probiotics2012. The title of the poster is "Evaluation of the effects of age and diet on the gut ecosystem via multiple omics". This is the result of collaborative research between Central Institute for Experimental Animals and IAB, Keio University.

FOSBE 2012 was held at the Tsuruoka Metabolome Campus, Tsuruoka city on Oct 21-25,2012. A total of 43 oral presentations and 55 poster presentations were presented. About 120 participants from 12 countries gathered for FOSBE 2012to Tsuruoka Japan.

The Seventh Metabolome Symposium was held at the Lecture Hall, Tsuruoka Metabolome campus, in Tsuruoka City on Oct 10-12, 2012. There were 38 oral presentations and 61 poster presentations. About 280 participants from all over Japan gathered in Tsuruoka for the event.

Why the Change to a Superconductor when Simmered in Alcoholic Beverages?

In previous research, the National Institute for Materials Science discovered that iron telluride compounds [Fe(Te,S) system], which are iron-based superconducting related substances, become superconductors when simmered in alcoholic beverages.In the research reported here, NIMS and the Institute for Advanced Biosciences of Keio University identified substances in alcoholic beverages which induce superconductivity and clarified the mechanism of why they do so.

IAB accepts fifteen local students as "Special Research Student"

IAB accepts fifteen local students as "Special Research Student"

Fifteen local students (ten from Tsuruoka Minami high school, twofrom Tsuruoka National College of Technology, two from Haguro high school, and one from Tsuruoka Chuo high school) started their research activity at IAB. A welcome ceremony for those "Special Research Student" was held on May 16, 2012.

 

IAB appoints nine local high school students as "RA-U18" research assistants

IAB appoints nine local high school students as "RA-U18" research assistants

Nine local high school students joined on-going cutting edge projects at IAB. (This program was established in May 2009 ) The high school, Tsuruoka Chuo high school (Principal Mr. Toshiya Inoue, total enrollment of 866 students), is located right next to IAB and the nine students were selected after written examinations and interviews. A welcome ceremony for the students appointed as "RA-U18" research assistants was held on April 26, 2012.
