The Institute for Advanced Biosciences (IAB), Keio University, is a full-fledged bioscience research institute established in April, 2001, at the Tsuruoka Town Campus (Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan). This research institute uses cutting-edge biotechnologies to comprehensively measure and analyze human and microorganic cellular activity, conduct computer analysis and simulation, and apply findings to medical, environmental, and food sciences. IAB is attracting attention from around the world as a pioneer in the new life sciences field that makes full use of IT in this way called Integrated Systems Biology.

IAB decided to accept 18 students from Tsuruoka Chuo High School as "Research Assistants" and 21 local high school and technical college students (from 5 local high schools and National Institute of Technology Tsuruoka College ) as "Student Interns".

The 15th Bio-Summit in Tsuruoka was held for 3 days in Tsuruoka City from Aug 27 to 29, 2025. It featured 140 participants and 98 presentations from 59 schools across 19 prefectures presenting their daily research results in the first round.

The 16th International Symposium on Tardigrada was held in Japan in June 2025, marking the first time the conference has visited Asia.The program featured 4 keynote lectures, 57 oral presentations, and 61 conference poster presentations.
