IAB and Carna Biosciences, Inc. launched joint research for new system to evaluate the effect of kinase inhibitors

IAB and Carna Biosciences, Inc. announced that they launch joint research to analyze the function of kinase which are targeted by many anti-cancer drugs and apply a system to evaluate the effect of kinase inhibitors quantitatively.

IAB is a partner in a project entitled "Project of Early Clinical Development for Anti Cancer Medicine and Device" led by Hiroyasu Esumi, Director of National Cancer Center Hospital East, that was selected as "Super Special Consortia for supporting the development of cutting-edge medical care" by the Cabinet Office of the Japanese government.

Transporter Workshop in Tsuruoka was held on Nov 15-16, 2008 at IAB. About 70 participants from all over Japan gathered to Tsuruoka Japan. This event was sponsored by Japan Transporter Research Association, co-sponsored by IAB, supported by The Japanese Pharmacological Society and The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan.

The 3rd Metabolome Symposium was held on Oct 30-Nov 1, 2008 at IAB. About 200 participants from all over Japan gathered to Tsuruoka Japan. This event was co-sponsored by Keio University Global COE Program "Center for Human Metabolomic Systems Biology", RIKEN Plant Science Center (PSC) and Institute for Bioinformatics Research and Development (BIRD), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

Dr. Yasushi Ishihama's research group (Mr. Koshi Imami, a doctoral student at the Graduate School of Media and Governance,) under the direction of Dr. Masaru Tomita developed a fast and automated phosphoproteome analysis system for cultured cancer cells that facilitates the elucidation of the disease's mechanisms.

IAB launches on June 10 a "The Metabolome Consortium"which aims to promote the use of IAB's own metabolome analysis methods based on capillary electrophoresis time-of-flight mass spectrometry (CE-TOFMS) and the related metabolomic database by other groups such as pharmaceutical industries. The CE-TOFMS methods were developed by Dr.Tomoyoshi Soga's research group under the direction of Dr. Masaru Tomita.

Large-scale phosphorylation mapping reveals the extent of tyrosine phosphorylation in Arabidopsis.

A team of IAB and RIKEN researchers published this week that they identified on a large-scale, phosphorylation sites of Arabidopsis proteins. Most cellular processes in Arabidopsis, a widely-used plant model, are likely to be regulated at least in part by various phosphorylation events which appear strikingly similar to the human phosphoproteome profile. The results are published in Molecular Systems Biology (6 May 2008. 4: 193 doi:10.1038/msb.2008.32). The research group consists of the following researchers; Dr. Yasushi Ishihama of IAB, Dr. Naoyuki Sugiyama, Leader of Biomedical Group at Human Metabolome Technologies,Inc., Dr. Ken Shirasu, Group Director and Dr. Hiroshi Nakagami, Research Scientist of Plant Immunity Research Group at RIKEN Plant Science Center.

IAB and DENSO Corporation announced that they launch a joint research program to elucidate the metabolism of green algea that can synthesize and accumulate oil.

IAB metabolome analysis technique was selected by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) as one of the "World top level technologies of Japan" in the field of Life-Science, in the "Global Comparison of Research and Technology FY2008" report .
