Tsuruoka Metabolomics Cohort Study (TMCS) Project

The Tsuruoka Metabolomics Cohort Study (TMCS) is a population-based cohort study enrolling 11,002 participants since April 2012. This prospective study applies metabolomics technology, including CE/MS for charged metabolites and LC/MS for lipid metabolites, with other omics data such as genomics, to unravel molecular mechanisms underlying complex phenotypes and establish a foundation for personalized disease prevention. Current main topics of TMCS include prevention of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and age-related functional changes, e.g. frailty, cognitive decline and women's health. Detailed health surveys (wave 1/2/3/4) and follow-up health outcome surveys are conducted on a regular basis. We also develop a pipeline to computationally extract a large amount of uncharacterized peaks in metabolomic data, whose corresponding metabolites are unidentified but some of which may reflect pathophysiology of the subjects.
